Marketing Your Library's Assistive Technology Collection

The most wonderful, advanced, complete assistive technology collection benefits no one if people with disabilities are not aware of the tools your library has to offer.  The collection should be marketed both inside the library and out in the larger community.



In the library:

• Display assistive technology in prominent places, with appropriate signage. 
• Make flyers that detail and explain your collection available.  When designing the lay-out, use large font size and high-contrast print.
• Label adjustable workstations and hang signage over computers with adaptive software installed.
• If assistive technology is in a special room, provide clear signs directing users to its location.

In the Community:

• Hand out flyers at local rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, group homes, and social services agencies.
• Attend health fairs and demonstrate your libraries technology.
• Offer presentations at the local Senior Center to educate the aging population, who may be losing hearing, vision, or hand dexterity due to arthritis, about assistive technology that is available.
